A message from Colin Westwood, following on from the report below on the Christmas Auction held recently at the White Horse Farm Inn:
This Exploited Land is an initiative of the North York Moors National Park in conjunction with the National Heritage Lottery Fund to preserve and promote the until now neglected industrial heritage of the Park. A number of ways that this can be achieved are being studied, including the possibility of funding youth apprenticeships in heritage conservation and building skills.
Representatives of the NYMNPA and the NHLA met yesterday up on Chimney Bank and were briefed by Linda Chambers on the history of Rosedale and the importance of our outstanding industrial heritage to the promotion of tourism to the Rosedale area. Geoff Taylor, of the Kirby, Great Broughton and Ingleby Greenhow History Society then followed up with the historic railway linkage with his society’s area of interest and Rosedale.
More details on the project can be had from the Rosedale History Society on 01751 417071.
A Bell Jet Ranger on charter from Blades Aviation UK has been checking downed power cables in the area. According to the pilot there are still many cables on the ground and so it is likely that it will be some time before all the properties in the dale have their mains supply restored.
The traditional Christmas auction in aid of the Martin House hospice and the Updale Reading Room was held at the White Horse Farm Inn on Saturday night, 3 December. The festivities were started with the singing of a carol, The First Noell, then the inimitable Dave Seller auctioned off a multitude of items ranging from a special York edition of Monopoly to jars of pickled onions. The auction raised over £1000 – the final figure is as fuzzy as the head of the treasurers at the time of writing – which will be split equally between the Martin House hospice and the Updale Reading Room.
Thanks to Christine and Jim at the White Horse, to all those who helped run the auction so smoothly and to all those who contributed items for the sale and made the evening such a success. Afternote: the final sum collected appears to have been £1,023 – a magnificent effort and credit to everyone involved.
Revised date for the Parish Plan Community Meeting
PARISH PLAN -PROGRESS MEETING TO SET UP A STEERING COMMITTEE. TO BE HELD IN THE UPDALE READING ROOM ON
Tuesday 11TH OCTOBER AT 7.30PM.
ALL RESIDENTS OF ROSEDALE AND HARTOFT ARE WELCOME.
PARISH PLAN 2 MEETING on Mon. 19th Sept. 2011 (Updale Reading Room)
The meeting was attended by:- Paddy and Linda Chambers, Ian Thompson , Linda Sugars, Ena Dent, Mike Hutton, Debbie Grounds, Andrew and Linda Dagg, Geoff Sherwin, Janet Dring, Trev and Lorraine Dale, Chris Warren Colin Westwood, and Maggie Farey. Chris Warren chaired the meeting.
Aim of meeting:- To decide whether the communities of Rosedale and Hartoft wished to1.Develop a new Parish Plan or 2. Revise the Existing PP or 3.Not progress either option.
A presentation and report from ColinWestwood, chair of the original 2006 Parish Plan group analysed the progress made in delivering it’s main objectives. His conclusion was that some 70% of identified projects had been pursued either to a successful conclusion or to a stage where further action could be taken. Where schemes had not been progressed or had not reached a satisfactory conclusion, the major obstacles appeared to be non availability of land, insufficient and inappropriate communication and a lack of planning/resources and time available to the limited number of ‘drivers’.
Maggie Farey who as an officer now working for Rural Action Forward guided our community through the first PP. indicated that she, along with computer personnel from Ryedale DC.would be available to help again free of charge if residents wished to pursue either option 1 or 2. She further indicated that several other villages including Hutton Le Hole, Gillamoor and Ebberston had completed a second plan and were finding it most useful. Whilst no existing funds were available to help develop a second plan, Maggie indicated a willingness to help source such funds if a small amount was required.
Following a positive debate, those present agreed to attend a second meeting on Tuesday 11th October at 7.30pm in the Reading Room when it is hoped to form a Steering Group and develop a strategy for progress.
TO ALL ROSEDALE RESIDENTS
