Rosedale History Society Tea and Chat

The last 2012 tea and chat session for the Rosedale History Society was held in the Updale Reading Room on 2 December. The three ladies who help with providing the outstanding tea and cakes, Carol Cockerill, Margaret Truran and Monica Wilson, were each presented with Christmas garlands by the Secretary, Linda Chambers, in appreciation of all their support and hard work in aid of the RHS throughout the year.

Carol, Margaret and Monica receive their garlands. with John Dent looking on.

A note for the diaries: the first Tea and Chat in 2013 will be on Sunday 6 January between 2 and 4 pm. The research will be as stimulating and the refreshments as delicious as ever!

CHRISTMAS AUCTION

A charity auction in aid of local charities and the Updale Reading Room was held at the White Horse Farm Inn on Saturday night. Dave Seller was in his accustomed role as the auctioneer, ably assisted by Carol Cockerill and Margaret Truran. Thanks also to Christine and Jim and the team at the Inn for hosting a fun and successful evening which raised £930 (now well over £1000) for our good causes.

A BIG THANKS FROM THE UPDALE READING ROOM

On behalf of our Committee I would like to thank the generous people of Rosedale and Hartoft for recently raising some £650 for Reading Room funds. With your support, the Race Night in Howard and Daphne’s Blacksmith Arms on Friday the 2nd amassed £150 and the Christmas Auction at Christine and Jim’s White Horse on Saturday 3rd raised a magnificent £500. This will help greatly in meeting the running costs of YOUR VILLAGE HALL (presently in excess of £2000 each year for the heating, lighting and insurance alone).

You will also be pleased to know that Howard’s event raised a further £150 for the Village School whilst £500 from the Christmas auction was also passed to St Martins House, a charity for terminally ill children.

I would like to offer a special thanks to Howard who ran the Race night most professionally, it was great fun, and Dave Sellers who as auctioneer at the White Horse, was in fine voice and in unbelievably good humour despite remaining sober.

And finally a big thank you to those who had made or donated perhaps the widest range of goods for sale ever assembled in one place and to those wonderful ladies of the night, Margaret and Carole who passed amongst you all relieving you of hard won pound notes, still legal tender in Rosedale. Well done to you all.

Colin Westwood, Reading Room Committee Chairman.
