A brass band called the Sandhouse Stompers are walking the 120 miles from Morecombe to Whitby from 20 to 28 July. On the way they are stopping off to play free gigs to raise money for Favela Brass, a project which provides brass and percussion instruments and English lessons for children in one of the favelas in Rio de Janiero.
Last year’s walk raised over £4000 enabling the project to continue for another year and also to the children being invited to perform at the Rio Olympics!
The band will be playing on Wednesday night, 27 July, at the Coach House, Rosedale Abbey starting at around 8.30pm – call in, enjoy the lively music and contribute to a worthy cause.
Follow-on: a great night was had in the Coach House and the audience was very generous with their contributions to the charity, helping the Stompers to raise about £3000 so far on their trek and making the target of £4000 plus achievable after their final gig in Whitby at the Abbey Wharf on Thursday evening.
