Rosedale History Walk – 23 June 2013

Pointing The Way

Pointing The Way

The Rosedale History Society will be running another of its popular history walks on Sunday 23 June, starting from Rosedale Abbey village green at 2.00pm. The route will go from there up into Northdale via Duker Bridge and Bell End, returning by Hanging Stone House, Stonebank and Heygate, then back to the village by around 5.00pm.

The route may change subject to weather conditions, but all walkers should have weatherproof clothing, proper hiking footwear and are encouraged to bring water with them.

There is no need to book places and there is no charge for the walk; however, donations are gratefully accepted to help the work of the Rosedale History Society. Further details can be obtained from the Secretary RHS on 01751 417071 or e-mail  rosedalehistory@hotmail.co.uk .

History Walk – 19 May 2013

The Rosedale History Society ran the second of this year’s history walks on Sunday 19 May, starting at the White Horse Farm Inn (Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub 2012) car park at 2.00pm. Ten happy history buffs joined Linda and Paddy Chambers for the walk which went to the ironstone mines at Hollins, then up the ridge to Ana Cross and then to Bank Top to look at the historic railway and mining remains there, as well as evidence of Rosedale’s role in the Cold War in the form of the Royal Observer Corps monitoring post.

The next RHS walk will be on Sunday 23 June starting from Rosedale Abbey village green, going along Northdale Beck and then up into Northdale. It will last around three hours and finish back in the village. All walkers are encouraged to have appropriate wet weather clothing and sturdy hiking footwear.

All are welcome and the walk is free, but contributions to the RHS are always welcome. Further details are available at http://rosedale.ryedaleconnect.org or ‘phone on 01751 417071.

ROSEDALE HISTORY SOCIETY

HISTORY WALKS 2012

We start our programme of history walks NEXT SUNDAY, 15 APRIL with a walk from The White Horse on Chimney Bank (car park) starting at 2.00 p.m. lasting approximately 2 hours. We will take in the track towards Hollins and then up the dale side onto the moor to Ana Cross. We will then walk to Bank Top and across the kilns and railway terminus site and down onto the Thorgill road or descend Chimney Bank, depending on prevailing weather conditions! This walk takes in some important industrial sites but there will be plenty of social history too. You will be able to see archive photographs of the various locations and perhaps take some good photographs yourselves, with some excellent views across the valley and Spaunton Moor on offer.

Please contact us by ‘phone for further details and/or go to the history link on www.rosedaleabbey.com
