As part of the Land of Iron Project, The National Park is running a series of wildlife events in and around Rosedale. The programme dates, times and locations are shown in an earlier post and there is time to book in to more of these fascinating events which reveal the rich diversity of nature within the dale – and by attending any of them there is the opportunity to win a 4kg/9lb chocolate egg! (see below).

In summary, the week was a great success with most of the varied events being well attended. A huge range of animal and plant species were spotted and studied, of which some of the many highlights were spotting the rare Arctic Starflower in Hartoft, the rarer Tachina Grossa, a fly with attitude, along with bird wing moths as well as hearing (with the aid of bat detectors) and then watching Daubenton’s bats hunting by night along the River Seven at Dunn Car bridge.
Huge thanks to Elspeth ingleby and Sam Newton from the National Park for organising a truly fascinating, entertaining and instructive week – more please next year!
The Walking Festival was blessed with warm weather with a good turnout of a mixture of regulars and many first time visitors.

The Rosedale branch of the Women’s Institute celebrated its 80 anniversary – it was formed on 6 July 1939 – with a guest tea in the Updale Reading Room on Monday 10 June 2019.

The annual charity football match between Rosedale FC and the NYM Gamekeepers team took place on Sunday 9 June on Rosedale’s infamous sloping pitch.

The final score was believed to be around 8 – 2 in Rosedale’s favour, but it was a hard contested match and, more importantly, a friendly end of season run-out for both teams.

A big thank you to all who supported and took part in the Rosedale Wedding Dress Festival. We raised £3,851 (and moved the Angel up a notch). That takes our total fund-raising to a grand £26,487. Our target is £90,000.
We can now show we mean business in grant applications to save Rosedale Church from closure.
Congratulations to the five raffle winners! And thank you to the local businesses who provided the prizes and supported the event.
Any ideas for the next fundraising event will be warmly welcomed. Until then, thank you again – your donations and positive feedback have been very much appreciated.
Best wishes

The preview evening for the Wedding Dress Festival in aid of the appeal for St Mary and St Lawrence Church in Rosedale Abbey was very well attended and over £655 was raised for the appeal fund.

The festival, with its wonderful display of over thirty wedding dresses, stories, memorabilia and sales of local arts and crafts runs through to Sunday 2 June when there will be a Renewal of Wedding Vows Service in the Church at 10.30. Entry is free from 10.00am each day – donations to the appeal are, of course, very welcome!

Lyndsey says that if you feel too shy you don’t have to do the class at Rosedale Reading Room, but why not pop in for a coffee, buy some raffle tickets and watch the fun while supporting this great cause.
