ROSEDALE CALENDAR 2022

Posted on . No Comments

It’s that time again – the splendid Rosedale Calendar for 2022 in aid of the Save Rosedale Church Appeal is now out and available from Abbey Stores, Graze on The Green and Gillies Jones Glass Studio for £10 a copy, or from rosedalehistory@hotmail.co.uk for £12 with post and packaging included.

St Mary and St Lawrence Church East Window

These make ideal Christmas presents so buy one for the house and another one or two to send to family and friends elsewhere to remind them of lovely Rosedale!

All funds raised go to support this vital project, where another £80,000 is needed to restore and preserve our church for future generations.

Carols On The Green 2020

This year and in lieu of the usual carols on the green with mulled cider and mince pies held in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Charlotte Tomlin played a medley of Christmas tunes on a wintery Christmas Eve to a small but appreciative audience in the village.

A reminder that you can donate to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance at the following link: https://www.yorkshireairambulance.org.uk/support-us/donate/ and support this vital asset to our remote community in these stressful times.

A very Happy Christmas to all our readers and best wishes for a peaceful and healthy New Year.

The Christmas Tree 2020 – Up She Goes!

Sadly, there will be no ‘Carols on The Green’ by the Christmas Tree this year. We send all donations raised to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and this year would ask that you continue to support this vital emergency service by making contributions either in local collecting boxes or online or by cheque – details of how to donate are at https://www.yorkshireairambulance.org.uk/support-us/donate/

All Lit Up

We hope to see you all next year, to enjoy hot mulled cider and mince pies while singing along to our favourite carols around the village Christmas Tree. In the meantime stay safe and well and have a great Christmas.

Rosedale Christmas Auction 2020

Sadly but as expected the famous (or should that be infamous!) Christmas auction will not take place this year in the Coach House Inn. Instead there is now a draw where punters can ‘buy’ squares in the Abbey Stores and the Coach House Inn. Proceeds will go towards Rosedale Community School, the church, the Reading Room and Rosedale Football Club.

Details of prizes and the date of the draw will be notified as soon as known. Your support is, as ever, strongly requested

Father Christmas in Rosedale – Update!

Like the rest of us, Father Christmas has been working from home for the last few weeks – however, he and his Lion elves will be out and about before Christmas.

They had planned to visit Rosedale Abbey on Wednesday 9 December, but he has had to change his plans and will now call in to the village on Thursday 17 December at around 4.00pm.

Santa’s 2019 Visit.

Santa and his sleigh will arrive by the school gates opposite Abbey Stores and he looks forward to seeing as many children from the dale that afternoon – see you then!

Rosedale and Hartoft Support Group Update

The Rosedale and Hartoft Support group has created a collection point in the village for Ryedale Foodbank.  A horsebox has been kindly provided by Pam and Dave Seller on Milk Lane. Any spare tinned goods, cereals, UHT milk, jam and preserves, toiletries and cleaning products can be placed in the box provided and it will be picked up and distributed to those in need in the local area. Further information can be obtained from www.ryedale.foodbank.org.uk

There is also a “Send a Smile” box into which anyone can put a little greeting, drawing, card etc. These would then be included in any deliveries within our area or posted through local doors just to remind people that we all care.

We have also included a general book swap box and provided some posters to colour in which are a part of the campaign to thank our local posties. A bit of mindful activity for you and the children.

Rosedale Show 2020

With great regret, the Rosedale Show Committee has announced that the Show has been cancelled for this year. There were just too many forward financial commitments to be made now which could be put at risk later if any Wuhan Flu measures are still in place in August, as now seems likely from government forecasts.

Heavy Horses from 2019

Fingers crossed and see you all in 2021!

Rosedale History Society Meetings

Hello All,

Because we are all having to change our plans due to the virus threat, we will be holding no further monthly meetings or other events for the next few months.

If anyone wants archive information, please email us at any time at

rosedalehistory@hotmail.co.uk

We hope that everyone manages to stay well until we can all get together again.

best wishes

Coffee Morning – 7 March 2020

The coffee morning held in the Coach House Inn on Saturday 7 March was in aid of Guide Dogs for The Blind. The following is a message from Angela Gage, our local coordinator for the charity:

‘To all of you who supported the coffee morning in aid of Guide Dogs, a huge thank you from the Guide Dogs staff, from the people with sight loss, from the dogs whose dinners you provide and from myself.

These dogs help people to be independent and often fulfil their dreams. They provide companionship, support and protection as well as enabling their owners to socialise. I was therefore thrilled to be able to send a cheque for £300 to the charity from us all.

I also want to thanks Beth at the Coach House and to Margaret, Carol, Janet and Paddy for their help with the raffle. Angela’
