Craig and Helen hosted a fund raising cheese and wine party at the Abbey Stores on Friday evening in aid of Hospices UK. Enjoyable wines and cheeses from around the world and a very tempting raffle helped raise the magnificent total of £810.50.
Helen and Nicola have set themselves a target of £4500 and are planning a number of other fund raising events in the next twelvemonth, including an arduous Arctic challenge in January 2020 when they will travel to northern Finland to take part in snowshoe treks, cross-country skiing and dog sledding, all in expected minus 30c temperatures!
For further details call Craig and Helen on 01751 417475.
As throughout the nation, people of Rosedale gathered at our war memorial on Sunday 11 November to lay wreaths and remember those from the dale who gave their lives in the Great War and in subsequent conflicts.
Before the wreath laying, a Book of Remembrance, prepared by the Rosedale History Society to commemorate those men who gave their lives and also those who served and returned, was presented to the church for permanent display.
The coffee morning at the Coach House raised £341 in aid of the Mary’s Meals charity which aims to provide a daily meal in a place of education for more than one million of the world’s poorest children.
Good Coffee, Tasty Cakes and Plenty of Chat!
Thanks to all who helped run the event from Penelope Dawson-Brown, the coordinator, and to all who contributed a wide array of raffle prizes.
The next coffee morning on Saturday 3 March will be in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research – look out for more details nearer the time.
On a dank evening, over fifty people from the dale and visitors sang carols on the village green with varying degrees of lustiness, the volume increasing noticeably with the consumption of some excellent mulled cider and mince pies!
Oh, Come all Ye Faithful!
As a result, £270 was collected (including £50 from a whip round of the customers in Abbey Stores) for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a very worthy cause as there were several visits to Rosedale by the distinctive yellow helicopters of the service in 2017.
Thanks to all who contributed so generously and to Adrian and Diane Crawford for again leading the singing so ably. The same again next year?
The dale’s traditional pre-Christmas auction was held in the Coach House Inn on Saturday 18 November 2017. Amongst much merriment and relaxing inhibitions, masterminded by Dave Seller as the auctioneer, assisted by Sue Foster and Ena Dent, with Lorraine Dale and Pam Seller keeping the money flowing in, the grand sum of £1430 was raised for good causes, including the Reading Room, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Rosedale Community Fund.
The auction lots, including a wooden model of the Bonnet mycena (M galericulata) mushroom!
Bidding well under way
As ever, huge thanks to Dave Oakey and the Coach House team, to those who donated auction lots so generously and to all who helped make it such a memorable evening.
A memorial service for the late Jackie Brown was held in a packed out St Mary and St Lawrence Church on Friday 17 November, with Father Bill Godfrey officiating.
Jackie Brown, 17 August 1946 – 27 October 2017
Thanks to Ian and the Brown family the retiring collection was in aid of the ‘Save Rosedale Abbey Church’ appeal. The marvellous sum of £1100 was raised which is a great tribute to the love and affection for Jackie held by her family and friends and from all in the dale.
