GRAZE ON THE GREEN RE-OPENING!

For all of us suffering from gourmet gateaux deprivation since Darren and James closed down their business after ten hard working but profitable years in Rosedale, the very good news is that Sam and Andrea Miller are intending to re-open the bakery and tea room on Saturday 16 August, Show Day as it happens!

Sam, who hails from York, intends to open initially for teas, coffees and cakes before developing the business to reflect his widespread experience in hospitality which has included working in high end restaurants in Denmark, France, and Spain. So we welcome Sam, Andrea and their two children to Rosedale and wish them all the very best of luck for their new adventure here.

2026 ROSEDALE CALENDAR IS HERE!

The new Rosedale calendar has just been published, containing landscapes, people and wildlife of the dale taken by seven local photographers and is sold in aid of the Rosedale church appeal fund.

The calendar is available in Abbey Stores in Rosedale Abbey at £10 a copy and will be on sale in the Rosedale History Archive tent at Rosedale Show on 16 August. Further sale outlets will be notified here shortly.

The appeal stands at around £100,000, an outstanding achievement for such a small parish, and work on stabilising the roof is expected to start shortly once architects plans are finally approved; however, the total cost for all the works necessary is thought now to be over £200,000 so bids are being placed with the appropriate finding bodies. As the advert says ‘every little bit helps’ so your contributions will be very welcome!

ROSEDALE VE DAY 80 COMMEMORATION – 8 MAY 2025

The 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day was marked in Rosedale by taking Winston Churchill’s advice with ‘a brief moment of celebration’ in the form of a picnic on the village green on Thursday evening, 8 May 2025. As well as the picnic on the green, the community school set up a teddy bears’ picnic and later in the evening the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee memorial was illuminated as part of the national beacon lighting campaign.
