The York branch of the Campaign For Real Ale recently awarded the Coach House Inn, Rosedale Abbey, the title of Country Pub of The Season Autumn 2019, praising Dave Oakey and his team for their success in transforming the Coach House Inn over the last three years into a haven for real ales and ciders, and good pub food.

All in Rosedale offer our congratulations and wish Dave and the Coach House team the very best for the remainder of the season.

A coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care was held in the Community Primary School in Rosedale Abbey on Friday morning and raised the excellent sum of £401.

A good turnout of 50 people, both local and visiting, attended a very interesting and entertaining evening presented by Angus Ashworth in St Mary and St Lawrence Church, Rosedale Abbey. Angus talked about his start in the auctioneering business, his recent appearances in the BBC’s Antiques Road Trip programme (a new series is due to be shown shortly) and also discussed various items brought in by members of the audience.

The evening concluded with a quickfire auction of two items donated, an antique map of North Yorkshire which went for £130 and a signed copy of the new Rosedale 2020 Calendar which went for a very creditable £32. In all the evening raised around £700 for the church repair appeal thanks to the generosity of all who attended. Thanks also to all who brought in food for the buffet and who contributed to the wines on offer.
The Rosedale 2020 calendar is now on sale in Abbey Stores and will also be available at the next Coffee Morning (Rosedale History Society) on Saturday 5 October in the Coach House Inn, Rosedale Abbey. Copies cost £10 each in aid of the Save Rosedale Abbey Church Appeal – excellent Christmas presents and very useful at home too!

APPEAL UPDATE: Thanks to recent calendar sales and further donations from the Antiques Evening the Church Appeal now stands at £29,540.

There was solid rain for the whole of the day before the show so there was much apprehension about access to the show field on the day itself. However, after a slow and slippery start, the sun came out, the ground dried up quickly and the crowds turned up to make the day a great success. Some images as a reminder of the day:

A huge vote of thanks to Sam Dring and her Show Committee and to all the volunteers who set up the show field and to the stewards and other helpers on the day – it could not happen without your dedication to making the Show such a success.
This a call for cakes and buns/scones for the ever popular Church Cake Stall at the Show on Saturday coming.

Items should be brought to the stall on the day or before hand to Anthea Read – contact her on 417156 or email on dykehouse@moorsweb.co.uk
The Walking Festival was blessed with warm weather with a good turnout of a mixture of regulars and many first time visitors.

The Rosedale branch of the Women’s Institute celebrated its 80 anniversary – it was formed on 6 July 1939 – with a guest tea in the Updale Reading Room on Monday 10 June 2019.

The annual charity football match between Rosedale FC and the NYM Gamekeepers team took place on Sunday 9 June on Rosedale’s infamous sloping pitch.

The final score was believed to be around 8 – 2 in Rosedale’s favour, but it was a hard contested match and, more importantly, a friendly end of season run-out for both teams.
