Having drunk the last pints in the Coach House Inn, Rosedale Abbey, at lockdown in March, Dave Oakey and friends celebrated with the first pints on re-opening the pub in Saturday 4 July. The toast was to another regular, John Dent of blessed memory.
The Coach House is now officially open for business with table service only for food and drinks. Customers are asked to be patient and show understanding with the temporary limitations required by law.

A message from Jimmy Porter:
We are reopening from 12.00 on Saturday 4th of July lunch time. A safe and welcoming environment will be provided for all of our customers.
We will be serving food from 12.00 – 8.00pm everyday and operating a table only service for food and drink, there will be no service from the bar.
Advance reservations for internal seating areas strongly recommended as we will have a reduced seating availability. Card/contactless payment preferred. Social distancing to be maintained and hand sanitizer will be available.
Anything else you need, please let me know on 01751 417208
A socially distanced crowd of Rosedale residents attended a short commemoration of the end of the Second World War in Europe, at the war memorial in Rosedale Abbey churchyard. Some scenes from the event (photos by Linda Chambers):

A very special thanks to Charlotte Tomlin for her excellent playing of the Last Post and Reveille (on a bugle she had never played before) and to Rev Christine Haddon-Reece for the Blessing at the end of the ceremony.
It is hoped by the time of VJ Day in late August/early September this year that a proper celebration of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War can be held in the dale, which would also make up for the loss of the show – watch this space.
The coffee morning held in the Coach House Inn on Saturday 7 March was in aid of Guide Dogs for The Blind. The following is a message from Angela Gage, our local coordinator for the charity:
‘To all of you who supported the coffee morning in aid of Guide Dogs, a huge thank you from the Guide Dogs staff, from the people with sight loss, from the dogs whose dinners you provide and from myself.
These dogs help people to be independent and often fulfil their dreams. They provide companionship, support and protection as well as enabling their owners to socialise. I was therefore thrilled to be able to send a cheque for £300 to the charity from us all.
I also want to thanks Beth at the Coach House and to Margaret, Carol, Janet and Paddy for their help with the raffle. Angela’

The ever popular Carols On The Green, in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, took place on the village green on Monday 23 December at 6.30pm when a crowd of over fifty happy revellers enjoyed mulled cider and mince pies to accompany some lusty carol singing!

Over £250 was collected for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance on the night, so heartfelt thanks to all who donated and to Adrian and Diane Crawford and Linda Chambers for the musical accompaniment, mince pies and mulled cider, an appropriate start to a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The Ryedale Lions are collecting for three very worthy causes this year: The Wilf Ward Trust for Autistic Children, The Encephalitis Trust and Scarborough and Ryedale Young Carers.
The last tea and chat meeting of the Society for 2019 was held on Sunday 1 December in the Updale Reading Room, when the members made a presentation to Carol Cockerill and Margaret Truran to thank them for their hard work in support of the Society throughout the year and the wonderful tea and cakes which make each meeting such a treat.

Just a reminder that the meetings of the RHS are held on the first Sunday of each month from 2.00 to 4.00pm. Entry is free and there is a wealth of archive material and internet access available on the social, family and industrial of Rosedale – so why not come along on Sunday 5 January 2019 for a warm welcome, great chat and excellent tea and cakes!
Rosedale’s traditional Christmas Auction in aid of the Reading Room/Village Hall was held at the Coach House Inn on Saturday night. After much mirth and merriment and plenty of Christmas spirit, the wonderful sum of £1600 was raised to support the running and maintenance of the building for another year.

As ever, many thanks go to Dave Oakey and the Coach House team for their cheerful and professional service throughout the hectic evening and to Dave Seller and his assistants for auctioning of the huge number of lots so efficiently – a memorable night in Rosedale and a great start to the Festive Season.
