Another great day for Rosedale when Charlotte Seller, of the Old Police House, married Captain Kenneth Neilson of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment. After the wedding, the couple will be honeymooning in an undisclosed destination in Thailand, before setting up home in Andover where Kenneth is a staff officer in the Army Inspectorate, part of Army Headquarters there.

Artists In Rosedale
Artists in Rosedale, making the best of the fine weather.
A group of fourteen artists from Grimsby and Cleethorpes were in Rosedale Abbey on Sunday 12 July, under the tutelage of Leslie Treacher of Leslie Treacher Painting Holidays, based at the Mustard Seed Gallery in Cleethorpes (01472 200338)
Fortunately for the water colourists in the group the weather was fine if a little blowy!

Les’s Last Day
Les with Anthea Read, John Dent, Kate Jones and Harry Gillies along with Ollie the dog.
Keep It Clean – just what Les Barker has been doing for us here in Rosedale for years and today, Friday 6 February, was his last day on duty before retirement.
We wish Les all the very best for his retirement and send him our grateful thanks.
He says he will be back for the show this year so there will be a chance to buy him a pint or two then!
Carols By The Tree – Monday 22 December
All in fine voice – Ding Dong Merrily!
All were in fine voice on Monday evening helped along by some excellent mulled cider and delicious mince pies. A sum of £105 was raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, so many thanks to all who contributed and to Diane Crawford and Linda Chambers for organising the event again this year. And, of course, to Ann Wright for the use of her facilities!
A Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year to all our readers.

Work is well underway to repair the water damage to the church ceiling. No firm estimate yet when all the work will be completed, but watch this space.
Hard at work with the emulsion – but not quite Michaelangelo!

WW1 History Exhibition – 13 to 14 September 2014
Both days of the Local Villages WW1 history exhibition were well attended at the Updale Reading Room, Rosedale. Between 50 to 60 people on Saturday and rather more on Sunday visited from all over the country, not just locally and viewed a fascinating and varied set of photographs, memorabilia and documentation on the roles played by by local people in the Great War both at home and at the front from Rosedale and Hartoft, Appleton le Moors, Sinnington, Lockton and Levisham and Thornton le Dale.

A tremendous amount of hard work was put in to stage the exhibition by volunteers from all the villages involved. The organisers would also like to thank all those who helped out on both days with running the reception desk, guiding and advising our visitors, those who provided and served all the delicious cakes, rolls and other refreshments that are such a feature of these events in the Updale Reading Room and, finally, the generous donors of excellent raffle prizes on both days – you know who you are so thanks again!
Guerilla Gardening 3
Someone or perhaps more than one person has heeded the plea in the last Guerilla Gardening post and the two remaining empty tubs have been planted up.
Near the signpostsOpposite Graze On The Green
Thanks to whoever took the trouble to sort these two tubs out, And thanks to all who have taken on the challenge of the empty flower tubs, as the centre of the village is now looking a lot better than it it did a few short weeks ago.
