Shortly after 1.00pm on Monday 18 July, at Newlands Farm, Rosedale, a fire, thought to have started in a parked tractor, spread into a nearby barn. Fire appliances attended from Danby, Pickering, Malton and Kirkbymoorside.
Newlands Farm is the home of the Wilson family. Les and Monica and their son Kevin were home at the time and although they were clearly shocked by the incident, mercifully there were no injuries.
A funeral service for Brenda Bowes was held at St Mary and St Laurence Church, Rosedale Abbey, on Tuesday 5 July 2016 at 1.00pm , presided over by Father Bill Godfrey and followed by a committal in the graveyard.
Our sincere condolences to all her family, and to her many friends in the dale.

The Queen’s 90th birthday was celebrated in Rosedale by over 250 adults and children, who enjoyed traditional games on the Milburn Field, followed by a tea party on the village green.
Heartfelt thanks to all who helped set up and run this marvellous occasion, especially Nicola and her committee of helpers and also to all who contributed such delicious sandwiches, rolls, buns and cakes for the tea party.
The 150th anniversary of the wonderful little chapel at Hartoft was celebrated on Sunday 30 August with a musical tea. Forty four people from all over the dale attended and £315 was raised which will go towards replacing one or more of the chapel windows.
Lynda would like too thanks all who came and supported the chapel restoration fund for their ‘fantastic generosity’.
The coffee morning at the Coach House Inn in Rosedale Abbey on Saturday 1 August raised the magnificent sum of £450 in aid the of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Jayne Scott of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service gave a short presentation on the duties of first responders, followed by some practical training:
Linda Dagg, our local CFR coordinator, thanks all who attended and contributed so well to the cake sale and raffle and also Daphne Hebron and the staff of the Coach House for hosting the event.
Anyone who would like to volunteer should contact Linda on ldagg@moorsweb.co.uk for more information on the CFR scheme.
From Anthea:
Another great day for Rosedale when Charlotte Seller, of the Old Police House, married Captain Kenneth Neilson of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment. After the wedding, the couple will be honeymooning in an undisclosed destination in Thailand, before setting up home in Andover where Kenneth is a staff officer in the Army Inspectorate, part of Army Headquarters there.
A group of fourteen artists from Grimsby and Cleethorpes were in Rosedale Abbey on Sunday 12 July, under the tutelage of Leslie Treacher of Leslie Treacher Painting Holidays, based at the Mustard Seed Gallery in Cleethorpes (01472 200338)
Fortunately for the water colourists in the group the weather was fine if a little blowy!
