Changing Lightbulbs in Rosedale

What does it take to change a lightbulb? In Rosedale Abbey it was five men and three wagons to change the old sodium street light for a modern LED version, meaning better lit roads in the village this winter.

Land of Iron Public Consultation – 12 December 2017

A public consultation on the proposed conservation measures on Rosedale’s ironstone roasting kilns was held last night, 12 December, in the Coach House Inn. The session was very well attended by 28 local people and there was lively discussion on several topics after stimulating presentations by representatives from the project office and the archaeological and engineering agencies involved with the proposed works.

Tom Mutton, the TELI project manager outlines progress on the project.

Details of how to volunteer to help out in the programme of works on the line in 2018 can be found at www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/landofiron

Chimney Bank Closed – 8 December 2017

Chimney Bank has been closed until further notice because of a serious crash on the hill on Friday morning 8 December. The BATA feed lorry skidded on frozen snow and crashed just above the first hairpin on the hill, shedding its load of cattle feed.

Fortunately the driver only suffered a broken ankle and was taken off to Scarborough Hospital.

In view of the conditions on the Bank and the forecasted very bad weather, the recovery crews told the police and Highways on site that it would be unsafe to attempt a recovery until the weather improves. So the Bank is closed until further notice – watch this space and our social media for further reports.

Father Christmas visited Rosedale Abbey this evening, delighting young and old in his brightly colored sleigh, with Santa’s helpers from the Ryedale Lions  collecting for local good causes.

Rosedale Community School Christmas Fair – 23 November 2017

The annual Christmas Fair in aid of the Rosedale Community School was held in the school hall on Thursday 23 November. In a very festive atmosphere, just over £570 was raised to support school activities, an excellent effort all round:

“Can I have a ride-on mower, please Santa?”
Busy with stalls and activities

Thanks to all the stall holders and to those who donated prizes for the raffle and who ran activities to entertain the children. And off course, to Santa for turning up and dishing out presents!

And a reminder that Father Christmas will be revisiting the dale on 4 December at 4.40pm, parking up by the school gates, so come along and give him a warm Rosedale welcome.

Father Christmas in Rosedale – 4 December 2017

Father Christmas is taking time  out from his very busy schedule in December to call in on Rosedale Abbey and spread his Christmas cheer on Monday 4 December at 4.40 pm. He will park his sleigh just outside the school gates and will be escorted by his elves from the Ryedale Lions:
