Having drunk the last pints in the Coach House Inn, Rosedale Abbey, at lockdown in March, Dave Oakey and friends celebrated with the first pints on re-opening the pub in Saturday 4 July. The toast was to another regular, John Dent of blessed memory.
The Coach House is now officially open for business with table service only for food and drinks. Customers are asked to be patient and show understanding with the temporary limitations required by law.
Craig and Helen are pleased to announce that the Abbey Tea Room will be open on Saturday 4 July for teas, coffees, cakes and scones and savoury items from 9.00am to 4.30pm, and then every day except for Wednesdays when it will be closed. There will be plenty of seating outside but limited availability indoors because of the continuing need for safe distancing – customers’ patience and understanding is requested.

The Abbey Stores shop will continue to be open from 8.30am to 5.00pm every day except for Wednesdays, when the timings will be 8.30 to 10.00am.

A message from Jimmy Porter:
We are reopening from 12.00 on Saturday 4th of July lunch time. A safe and welcoming environment will be provided for all of our customers.
We will be serving food from 12.00 – 8.00pm everyday and operating a table only service for food and drink, there will be no service from the bar.
Advance reservations for internal seating areas strongly recommended as we will have a reduced seating availability. Card/contactless payment preferred. Social distancing to be maintained and hand sanitizer will be available.
Anything else you need, please let me know on 01751 417208

St Mary and St Lawrence Church in Rosedale Abbey will be open for private prayer on Saturday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

Abbey Stores is now supplying teas, coffee, cakes and take out meals. Access to the shop is still limited to one local resident at a time and the shop will be open from 08.30am to 3.30pm each day except for 08.30am to 10.00am on Wednesdays and 08.30am to 1.00pm on Sundays.

Graze on The Green will be open for take out tea, coffee and cakes from 10.00am to 4.00pm from Wednesday to Sunday. Access will be limited to two persons at a time from a single household to order and pickup.
The Rosedale and Hartoft Support group has created a collection point in the village for Ryedale Foodbank. A horsebox has been kindly provided by Pam and Dave Seller on Milk Lane. Any spare tinned goods, cereals, UHT milk, jam and preserves, toiletries and cleaning products can be placed in the box provided and it will be picked up and distributed to those in need in the local area. Further information can be obtained from www.ryedale.foodbank.org.uk

There is also a “Send a Smile” box into which anyone can put a little greeting, drawing, card etc. These would then be included in any deliveries within our area or posted through local doors just to remind people that we all care.

We have also included a general book swap box and provided some posters to colour in which are a part of the campaign to thank our local posties. A bit of mindful activity for you and the children.

A socially distanced crowd of Rosedale residents attended a short commemoration of the end of the Second World War in Europe, at the war memorial in Rosedale Abbey churchyard. Some scenes from the event (photos by Linda Chambers):

A very special thanks to Charlotte Tomlin for her excellent playing of the Last Post and Reveille (on a bugle she had never played before) and to Rev Christine Haddon-Reece for the Blessing at the end of the ceremony.
It is hoped by the time of VJ Day in late August/early September this year that a proper celebration of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War can be held in the dale, which would also make up for the loss of the show – watch this space.
