Hospices UK Cheese and Wine Party – 22 March 2019

Craig and Helen hosted a fund raising cheese and wine party at the Abbey Stores on Friday evening in aid of Hospices UK. Enjoyable wines and cheeses from around the world and a very tempting raffle helped raise the magnificent total of £810.50.

Helen and Nicola have set themselves a target of £4500 and are planning a number of other fund raising events in the next twelvemonth, including an arduous Arctic challenge in January 2020 when they will travel to northern Finland to take part in snowshoe treks, cross-country skiing and dog sledding, all in expected minus 30c temperatures!

A a result of a severe accident on the Bank on Wednesday (see below), the road is closed from the upper car park at Bank Top and by the White Horse Inn at the bottom until further notice.

Look out the windows, read the signs and ignore the satnav.

A splendid ageing oak

The old oak tree is bare! It’s this time of year when trees show all they have got.  The split in the trunk and subsequent hollowing is very visible  Updale Natural History Recorder

Dippers are pair bonding

We have dippers here on the River Seven in Rosedale.  They are early breeders and pair bonding is already underway at their nest sites.  Plenty of singing between them – females sing as well as males.  Plenty of picking up and dropping leaves, bowing with wings quivering and tail cocked.  Next month they will be well on with refurbishing their nests.  Updale Natural History Recorder
