This Exploited Land

We have just received the brilliant news that the Heritage Lottery Fund has granted £2.5 million towards the This Exploited Land (TEL) project to conserve, protect and interpret our unique industrial heritage.

The full NYMNP press release is at this link: http://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/about-us/press-office/press-releases/articles2/trailblazing-funding-for-the-north-york-moors

The Rosedale History Society has played a full role along with the other partners in the project to bring about this excellent result. There will, of course, be regular updates on the TEL project progress from now on, here and at the RHS regular Sunday meetings on the first Sunday of each month.

Well done all!

The 150th anniversary of the wonderful little chapel at Hartoft was celebrated on Sunday 30 August with a musical tea. Forty four people from all over the dale attended and £315 was raised which will go towards replacing one or more of the chapel windows.

The Seller and Neilson Wedding – 25 July 2015

Another great day for Rosedale when Charlotte Seller, of the Old Police House, married Captain Kenneth Neilson of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment. After the wedding, the couple will be honeymooning in an undisclosed destination in Thailand, before setting up home in Andover where Kenneth is a staff officer in the Army Inspectorate, part of Army Headquarters there.

Artists in Rosedale, making the best of the fine weather.

A group of fourteen artists from Grimsby and Cleethorpes were in Rosedale Abbey on Sunday 12 July, under the tutelage of Leslie Treacher of Leslie Treacher Painting Holidays, based at the Mustard Seed Gallery in Cleethorpes (01472 200338)

Fortunately for the water colourists in the group the weather was fine if a little blowy!

And finally, thanks to all those many who put up bunting, designed wonderful artifacts to decorate the approaches to and the village itself and generally helped make 1 May a special day for all in the dale.

Rosedale – Capital of Cake

Sometime later this year in the summer, Sir Terry Wogan and his London cabbie mate, Mason McQueen will be hosting a programme on BBC 2 called ‘Terry and Mason’s Food Programme’.

Hillside Message – Tour de Yorkshire

Well, it’s up! The message is revealed as ‘North York Moors’ and can be seen on the hillside at Greenbank off the Knott Road, although a better view can seen from Daleside Road (on the way to School Row and Hill Cottages). Or better still with a private helicopter!
