ROSEDALE ART & CRAFT FESTIVAL AND CONCERTS at Rosedale Abbey church in aid of the Save Rosedale Abbey Church appeal.

Wednesday June 1, 7pm, Festival Launch with concert by The Dalesmen Singers.  £10 at the door.  Refreshments.

Thursday – Sunday June 2-5, 10.00 – 4.00, Art & Craft workers selling a wide range of hand-made quality pieces, workshops and displays. Free entry.  Workshops can be pre-booked.  See further details on facebook, twitter and www.rosedaleabbey.com

Thursday 2 June 9.45pm – Beacon Lighting on Chimney Bank

Thursday June 9, 7.00pm Concert with jazz musicians John Lane and Richard Haynes, and professional singer and guitarist, Ross McWhirter.  £10 at the door.  Refreshments.

ROSEDALE HISTORY MEETING on Sunday 5 June, 2.00-4.00 at Updale Reading Room village hall.  Our informal, quarterly meetings are open to all for research and discussion.  Our large archive covers both social and industrial heritage with photographs, documents and maps.   Internet access provided.  Refreshments available.  Contact rosedalehistory@hotmail.co.uk  with any enquiries.

  • Picnic tables in the park
  • Bring & Buy Cake Stall – proceeds to Charity

ROSEDALE CHURCH ANNUAL PAROCHIAL MEETING – 25 MAY 2022

The Annual Parochial Meeting will take place in St Mary and St Lawrence Church on Wednesday 25 May at 7.00pm – all are most welcome to attend.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Timetable of Events

‘Royal’ Scarecrows displayed in gardens etc by the weekend of May 28th/29th – See posters around the area.

Bunting decorations around the village and outlying areas. Decorate your windows, gardens, fences.

Thursday 2nd June. Milk Street to be blocked off for safety whilst activities take place centred in the Turret Field.

  • 2 pm Meet in the village Turret Field (in fancy dress if you want) with Union Jacks
  • Sing the National Anthem
  • Design a Crown activity
  • Victoria sponge competition (Recipe from the Bero book made from two cakes). Entries by 2:30pm. Judged at 3pm.
  • Face Painting
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Photo Booth style frame
  • Teas and Cakes stall. Manned by the WI ladies, but donations of cakes very welcome.
  • 9:45pm Beacon lit on Chimney Bank (Beacons lit all over the country). Watch from a vantage point – on the Rigg Road – by the cattle grid on Heygate Bank or wherever you can see. Celebrate!!!
    Bells to be rung to herald the event.

Friday 3rd June

  • 5pm Cricket Match on the Milburn field. Updale v village. Teams to be organised.
  • BBQ at the Coach House afterwards plus music night.

Sunday 5th June 2pm on the Milburn field

  • Picnic (Bring your own)
  • Sports to start at 3pm
  • Awards given out after the Tug of War

Art and Craft displays in the church throughout the Bank Holiday weekend. Please see their posters for details.

‘Where are you today’ Community Record Project. Leaflet handed out to all residents. Date for completion 20th May. PLEASE TRY TO DO THIS AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS SO WE HAVE A RECORD TO KEEP.

ROSEDALE HISTORY SOCIETY MEETINGS 2022

The first of our now quarterly Tea, Chat & History meetings takes place in early March.  Please make a note of the dates for 2022: 6 March, 5 June, 4 September and 4 December. 

These informal meetings are between 2.00 – 4.00pm. on Sunday afternoons at the Updale Reading Room, Rosedale.  The archive will be available to browse and research, and we look forward to welcoming our regulars as well as new visitors. 

Any regulations due to the ongoing Covid situation will, of course, be observed.  Please contact rosedalehistory@hotmail.co.uk for further information.

Father Christmas in Rosedale – 1 December 2021

Father Christmas is, of course, used to cold weather where he lives at the North Pole, but Rosedale did its best to make him feel at home on a breezy, sleety night with lots of young boys and girls giving him a warm welcome!

Thanks again to Father Christmas and to his elves from the Ryedale Lions for coming to Rosedale and for giving such a great start to the festive season.

Rosedale History Coffee Morning  and Meeting – 4 & 5 December 2021

This coming weekend we will be having a coffee morning in the Coach House on Saturday, 4 December, 10.00-12.00.  There will be the usual raffle and cake sales, and donations for either or both will be gratefully accepted.

On the following day, Sunday 5th, between 2.00-4.00pm., we will be having our first Tea and Chat meeting back in the Updale Reading Room in almost two years.  We look forward to seeing some familiar faces and also welcome new ones to our very informal get-togethers.  Could those who would like to come along please bring a mask and respect social distancing.  Refreshments will be available.

Please note, future meetings are going to be quarterly, not monthly.  Our meetings for 2022 will be held on the first Sunday in March, June, September and December.
